Post 2001’s Salute to Military, Veterans & Families ~ 20 September

Legionnaires of Post 2001,

Ladies and Gentlemen:

As you are aware, our 2nd Annual Salute to Military, Veterans & Families on Sunday, 20 September is now rapidly approaching. This weekend, the attached flyer is being sent to Veterans & the general public as well, by our Salute Committee, all across Northern Virginia & beyond. As members of our Legion Post, it is our collective responsibility to do all we can do to individually distribute this flyer to everyone we know throughout the area.

The attached flyer is in PDF format to facilitate easy distribution to family, friends & organizations we may belong to & especially other Veterans. After all, this is not about us, it is ALL about those Veterans in need of real assistance in Loudoun County and beyond. This is a PUBLIC event.

Therefore, it is incumbent on us all to widely inform others of this very special event. This year we have several partners including those whose logos appear on the flyer.

Opening Session[Noon to 2pm]

Color Guard: Loudoun County’s Marine Corps League Post 1177.

The World renown Medical Music Group’s Orchestra; Hillside Elementary Choral Group; and more! Lots of patriotic music & youth activities.

We have a some outstanding speakers/presenters: Former 4-Star Admiral John Harvey, Virginia’s Secretary of Veterans & Defense Affairs; Barbara Comstock, 10th District, U.S. House of Representatives [Veterans Advocate]; TAG Greason, 32nd District, Virginia General Assembly [Member of Post 2001/USA]; Gary Clemens, LC Clerk of the Circuit Court [Veterans Advocate]; Scott York, Chairman, LC Board of Supervisors [Veterans Advocate]; Ralph Buona, Vice Chairman, LC Board of Supervisors [USAF]; and Shawn Williams, LC Board of Supervisors [Member of Post 2001/USMC].

Afternoon Session[2pm to 4pm] ~ FYI, this is exactly why we spend 7 months planning this event!

Approximately 20+ Salute Partners at tables in the Hall providing a variety of information for Veterans & how others may be of assistance to Veterans throughout our area; AND

In the Cafeteria, representatives of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Veterans Benefits Administration will be present to check the status for any Veteran who has already filed a claim with VA. This service was kindly arranged by our 2014 Keynote Salute speaker, Allison Hickey, VA’s Under Secretary for Benefits [Member of Post 2001 & former BGen/USAF]; AND

Also, in the Cafeteria, the American Legion & the Veterans of Foreign Wars will have their Service Officers present to assist Veterans & their families check on VA claims or initiate new VA claims.

So, what can you do to help spread the word? Simply send this flyer via email to as many people as possible. And/or, walk across the street to the Veteran you know or don’t know and give he/she a printed copy! Or, printout 30 copies and saturate the block you live on. OK, you get it!

Your Post 2001 website also now supports donations [small, medium or large ~ it all counts] to the Post for this event at: www.ashburnlegion.org.

It is action time NOW & for the next 3 weeks, so keep on sending the flyer through 19 September! Together, we can fill those 1,000+ seats in the Stone Bridge HS auditorium this year. Let’s Roll……….

For additional information on how you may volunteer for a variety of assistance to insure the Salute’s success , please contact Salute Director, Bob O’Such.
