Services for our late Commander, Charlie McKinney, will be held this week. Details follow.
If you can attend any of the services, please wear your Legion cover.
Please let Bob O’Such know if you know that you will be attending, as he is coordinating our participation.
Tuesday 13 September 1100:

The funeral service for our late Commander, Comrade Charlie McKinney, will be on St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Herndon.

Tuesday 13 September following the service (about 12:30 to 15:00), a reception will be held at St Theresa Church in Ashburn.

Fr. Tom, a priest at St. Joseph’s and Fr. Jim, one of our Post chaplains and a priest at St Theresa’s, will concelebrate.

The Post will provide 4 pallbearers and hopefully a lot of you will be there to pay respects. We ask that Legionnaires wear their covers.

The burial will be at Union Cemetery in Leesburg.

Commander Charlie McKinney’s Funeral information

Legionnaires and friends,

The funeral service for our late Commander, Comrade Charlie McKinney, will be on Tuesday, 13 September at 1100 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Herndon, VA. Fr. Tom, a priest at St. Joseph’s and Fr. Jim, one of our Post chaplains and a priest at St Theresa’s, will concelebrate. The Post will provide 4 pallbearers and hopefully a lot of you will be there to pay respects. We ask that Legionnaires wear their covers.

A reception will follow, and details will be provided when they are solidified.

The burial will be at Union Cemetery in Leesburg on Wednesday, 14 September, at 1300.

The Marine Corps League has been asked to provide the color guard at both the Mass and the burial. We are looking for a bugler for the burial ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Charlie’s name to American Legion Post 2001, Box 1243, Ashburn, Va. Donations will be used exclusively to help needy Veterans and their families.

Cards and letters of condolences may be sent to Mrs. Eileen McKinney and family. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Legion Post 2001 Charlie McKinney Memorial Fund, which will be used for assisting veterans and their families in need.
