Subject: Film Thank You for Your Service at Angelika Mosaic Cinema, JAN 24 7:30 PM

Jack,

I need your help to get the word out about Thank You for Your Service, a very important film.

A screening of the documentary film, Thank You For Your Service, hosted by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 227, will take place at the Angelika Film Center on Tuesday, January 24, 7:30 PM. Dealing with the mental health issues confronting many recently returning veterans, this is described as one of the best films of the year. For more information, see the movie trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNJrXxHCGDU.

To purchase tickets, visit: http://gathr.us/screening/18521. There is no other way to buy tickets. The prices is $14, set by the organization that is providing the film.

The film that takes aim at the failed mental health policies within the U.S. military and their tragic consequences. It tells the stories of four struggling Iraq War veterans, along with interviews of top military and civilian leaders. Observing the systemic neglect, the film argues for significant internal change and offers a roadmap of hope.

Interviews include Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Admiral Mike Mullen, Generals David Petraeus and Loree Sutton, Sebastian Junger, Nicholas Kristof, Dexter Filkins, Senator Patty Murray, Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Colonels Lawrence Wilkerson and Dave Sutherland.

Although this is not a fundraiser for VVA, ticket buyers will have an opportunity to make a voluntary donation to VVA Chapter 227 to help veterans in Northern Virginia, regardless of when or where they served.

A minimum of 54 tickets must be sold in advance to proceed with the showing. Therefore, we need to sell tickets now to guarantee that the film and theater are made available to us. BTW, we are only 19 short of meeting our quota, so I am very optimistic that, with your help, we will be able to get the film and the theater.

There will be a short panel discussion of relevant experts after the film ends.

Counselors will be available in the audience in case anyone finds the film too stressful.

Previous announcements with a 7PM start time were erroneous.

Post 2001 – Veterans’ Day

Message from the Post Commander:

Legionnaires,

This Friday, Veterans’ Day, is a time to celebrate our current active duty and veteran comrades, and remember and honor those who are no longer with us including our POWs and MIAs yet unaccounted for.

Many activities are planned for the 11th and the remainder of the Veterans’ Day weekend. One special event to which our Post members have been invited is the Hillside Elementary School choir concert for Veterans, Thursday, 10 November at 18:30 and Friday, 11 November, at 0900. This is the third year Mrs. Jessica Blood will be directing this outstanding program. I encourage you to make a special effort to attend at least one of them, and proudly wear your cover and/or a Legion shirt, if you have one.

If you know of others, please share the information with Adjutant Norm Larson as soon as you can.

Other activities, events and discount/free meals are being staged in honor of our veterans. Check out these links:
