Post 2001 Members Participated in Honor Flight – Top of Virginia

Post-2001 Members, Bob Coughlan and Bill Bridgham, attended Honor Flight – Top of Virginia and were honored as for their sacrifices. Dennis Kellen of Post-2001 served as a Guardian.

Honor Flight – Top of Virginia is an amazing organization. Post-2001 members have participated as both Veterans and Guardians. Every veteran who has participated in an Honor Flight – Top of Virginia event has said it was an amazing experience and something they will cherish for a lifetime.

Honor Flight – Top of Virginia, a hub of the Honor Flight Network, was created solely to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices. We transport our heroes to Washington, D.C., to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill.

Being an Honor Flight guardian requires total focus on and dedication to the Veteran you are assigned to escort. Participating in an Honor Flight trip is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the Veteran. The guardian is responsible for ensuring all Veterans’ needs are met and that they are treated like heroes from the moment they arrive in the morning until the moment they leave at night. The day is about camaraderie and shared experiences with their brother and sister Veterans. It is a life-changing day for many of them. The guardian’s sole duty is to make sure the Veteran is safe and fully experiences all that Honor Flight offers.

Each guardian is assigned one Veteran to escort on the trip. Spouses/significant others of Veterans on the trip are not permitted to be guardians. Adult children and grandchildren are welcome to apply.  A guardian will be assigned to a Veteran if the Veteran does not designate a specific person to escort him/her.
