Post 2001 – Week Ahead 11 Feb – 17 Feb and Monthly Meeting (Ashby Ponds)

Legionnaires,

A couple events this week.  Hope you can make one or both!

Thursday 14 February:  Our monthly meeting at 7:30 pm. This month we will hold the meeting at Ashby Ponds in the Great Oak clubhouse theater (44755 Audubon Square, Ashburn 20147)

Directions:

From Gloucester Parkway, turn onto Ashby Ponds Boulevard and stay in the left lane approaching the gatehouse, unless directed otherwise.  At the gatehouse, tell guard you’re going to the American Legion meeting at Great Oak Clubhouse, hosted by Ashby Pond resident Chuck Loomis of Magnolia Place 405.  Be patient as they are required to collect some information on all visitors.   Map attached.

Leaving gatehouse (watch for cars on your right!), turn right onto Maple Branch Terrace and continue to stop sign.  Go straight through stop sign to second stop sign.  Turn slight left and continue on Audubon Square.  Great Oak Clubhouse is on left (44755 Audubon Square).  Find a place to park outside, come into the lobby where you may be asked to sign in at the information desk.  The meeting will be in the theater.

(You can get a general idea of the Ashby Ponds campus layout by going to https://mapcarta.com/26845578 and zooming in. )

Saturday 16 February:  Post 2001 Quarterly Litter Patrol for Adopt A Highway.

We will meet at at 0830 – rain or shine – in the Junction Plaza parking lot (Ashburn Farm Giant shopping center, corner of Claiborne and Ashburn Farm Parkway – park near the gas station) at 08:30 am and pick up litter along our adopted section of Claiborne Parkway from Ashburn Farm Parkway up to Hay Road & back.  Wear good walking shoes and bring your grabber reaching tool (so you can pick up litter without bending) if you have one.  Contact Legionnaire Ron Milberg for more details.

Tax time is upon us.  AARP Foundation is providing free tax assistance.  See the attached for more details!

American Legion – Department of Virginia – 67th Annual State Bowling Tournament (23-24 Feb)

Legionnaires,

If you are a bowler, you may be interested in the Legion tournament.  See the following and attachment.

——————————————————————————

American Legion – 67th Annual State Bowling Tournament

To:  DISTRICT / POST COMMANDERS AND ADJUTANTS, DEPT OF VIRGINIA

From:  John Schenk, Second District Commander

What:  Dept of Virginia State Bowling Tournament

When:  February 23 – 24, 2019

Where:  Norfolk, Va.

Why:  Celebrate 67 Years of competition within the Department of Virginia

Cmnts:  HAPPY NEW YEAR Everyone

I respectively request that the Post Commanders and Adjutants share this email with the members of their Posts.

I obtained your email addresses from the 2018-2019 state Directory and the email is being sent via “bcc” so as to not share addresses.

This is our Centennial Year for the Legion and our way to celebrate is put on a good show for the Bowlers. So, why not come on down and support?

It is my pleasure on behalf of the Second District to welcome you to the 67th Department of Virginia, American Legion State Bowling Tournament, to be held in Norfolk, Va.

More important, is the fact that my American Legion Post, Tidewater post 327, is hosting the tournament for your bowling pleasures. As a Post we look forward to rekindling the friendships and camaraderie that has been made over the years.

Post Bowling Chairman, Larry Turner, suggested I send this welcome note as a reminder of the tournament. The hotel has agreed to extend the deadline for registration date ((now 1 Feb 2019)). I would recommend registering as soon as possible.

Mr. Turner also would like to inform everyone of a new “DISTRCT – WE WON” the tournament, traveling trophy. You win it and then keep it for the year and bring it back to the tournament next year.

As usual, American Legion Post 327 will put on the feed bag both Friday and Saturday nights. My understanding is that Friday will be SHRIMP and Saturday night will be GRILLED STEAKS.

Any questions, please contact Mr. Larry Turner or Mr. Byron Pianalto. Their information is within the attached paperwork.

Thanks for listening and many thanks for attending.

John Schenk
