Boys and Girls State Students Talk About Their Experience

We had the pleasure of listening to a couple of students tell about their experience with Boys and Girls State. Each student said the experience was one they would remember forever and expressed gratitude to the Post for giving them such an amazing opportunity and to all the veterans for their selfless service to the country. Boys State and Girls State are week-long summer leadership and citizenship programs for high school juniors, focused on simulating the workings of state and local government. These programs, sponsored by The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary, respectively, aim to educate young people about their responsibilities as citizens and to foster leadership skills. Participants engage in activities like legislative sessions, court proceedings, and political campaigns, learning about the structure and practical operation of government through hands-on experience. Both students emphasized the importance of promoting these programs to encourage more students to participate and learn about leadership and government.
