Tues. Jan. 9th 1:00pm,
Virtual Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education Training.
Details
Overdoses can happen in unexpected situations: a social gathering, a school event, with a friend or family, or other community event. You may not know that someone is at risk of overdose: stigma prevents many who use drugs from telling others. Do you know how to help someone who has overdosed on opioids?
The Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board is offering a free online class that will provide the knowledge and confidence you need to potentially save a life during an opioid overdose emergency. Support for this program is from the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services.
During this 60-minute virtual class you will learn:
• How to recognize the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose.
• How to administer Narcan nasal spray to potentially reverse the effects of an
opioid overdose.
• Other knowledge needed to fully respond to an opioid overdose emergency (what to do and not do).
Registration will be confirmed via an email, which will contain course log-in instructions for Zoom, how to obtain your REVIVE Kit (2 CPR mouth barriers, vinyl gloves, instruction card) and Naloxone.
Upon completion of the virtual training, only Fairfax County and Cities of Falls Church/Fairfax residents can receive the Revive Kit and/or no-cost Naloxone. If you would like more information on how to obtain Naloxone in your region, or outside the Fairfax-Falls Church area, please contact the Wellness, Health Promotion & Prevention Team at CSBRevive@fairfaxcounty.gov.
