SUMMARY:Virtual Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education Training
DESCRIPTION:Tues. Jan. 9th 1:00pm\, \nVirtual Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education Training. \nRegister Here \nDetails\nOverdoses can happen in unexpected situations: a social gathering\, a school event\, with a friend or family\, or other community event. You may not know that someone is at risk of overdose: stigma prevents many who use drugs from telling others.  Do you know how to help someone who has overdosed on opioids? \nThe Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board is offering a free online class that will provide the knowledge and confidence you need to potentially save a life during an opioid overdose emergency. Support for this program is from the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services. \nDuring this 60-minute virtual class you will learn: \n• How to recognize the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose. \n• How to administer Narcan nasal spray to potentially reverse the effects of an \nopioid overdose. \n• Other knowledge needed to fully respond to an opioid overdose emergency (what to do and not do). \nRegistration will be confirmed via an email\, which will contain course log-in instructions for Zoom\, how to obtain your REVIVE Kit (2 CPR mouth barriers\, vinyl gloves\, instruction card) and Naloxone. \nUpon completion of the virtual training\, only Fairfax County and Cities of Falls Church/Fairfax residents can receive the Revive Kit and/or no-cost Naloxone.  If you would like more information on how to obtain Naloxone in your region\, or outside the Fairfax-Falls Church area\, please contact the Wellness\, Health Promotion & Prevention Team at CSBRevive@fairfaxcounty.gov. \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print

SUMMARY:Complex and Emerging Military Exposure Threat
DESCRIPTION:Tues. Jan. 14th 1:00pm – 2:30pm\, \nComplex and Emerging Military Exposure Threat. \nRegister Here \nThis live\, knowledge-based webinar is put on by the War-Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC) within Health Outcomes Military Exposures (HOME). While military exposures are inherently complex\, not all Veterans require in-depth evaluations of their clinical issues and concerns. Navigating the puzzle of how military exposures may or may not be related to a Veteran’s medical issues can be complicated\, and understanding how to address these at the primary care level is the first step. In addition\, awareness of additional resources\, how to effectively work-up exposure concerns initially\, and determining when and how to consult higher levels of exposure informed specialty care are the critical next steps. \nThis session will explore aspects of complex and emerging exposure cases and cohorts and considerations to optimize consultations with the War Related Illness and Injury Study Centers (WRIISCs) and their Centers of Excellence. Research aimed at calculating exposure dose estimates using objective and subjective military environmental exposure data will be presented as an example of the type of projects under development at the new Complex Exposure Threats Center of Excellence (CETCE) in Washington DC. This training is appropriate for interprofessional health care teams. \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print

SUMMARY:Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Substance Use Counseling
DESCRIPTION:Wed. Jan. 15th 3:00pm – 4:30pm\, \nIntegrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Substance Use Counseling. \nRegister Here \n  \nDescription\nEarly in the COVID-19 pandemic\, addiction professionals scrambled to embrace a technology that only 5 to 10% of them had previously dabbled in—telehealth.  Just as many of us felt like we’d achieved at least a moderate level of competency in telehealth\, artificial intelligence (AI) emerged as another mysterious\, exciting\, and—perhaps—terrifying technology to have to contend with\, creating a slew of relevant questions: Can AI help me write my progress notes and treatment plans?  How do I handle the fact that my counseling students are using AI to write their papers for them?  What’s up with the creation of AI bots that offer mental health advice to our clients?  Does AI perpetuate ethnoracial stereotypes?  Will AI make counselors obsolete?  This presentation was designed to offer an overview of how AI can (and already has) impact the counseling field and strategies for the ethical and impactful use of AI in counseling. \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print
