American Legion Post 2001 exists to support fellow veterans, their families, and our community. Our membership represents all five services. Post 2001 supports youth activities, returning service members, veterans in need, and the families of our men and women currently serving our country. We are a social network, involved in the community, and ambassadors and advocates for all veterans. We are a virtual post. That means the money we raise does not go to the costs of maintaining a facility. We focus our resources on helping veterans, their families, and the youth of our community. Past donation efforts have supported those Veterans who were;

— threatened with eviction because they missed one rent payment
— needing emergency home repair because their budget couldn’t support so significant and immediate an expense
— unable to come up with cash for an emergency flight home to be with a dying parent
— at a job loss and while looking for work, had difficulty meeting mortgage expenses

There are many more vets who daily run into difficulties like these.  But because of your support, we are able to meet many of their needs.

We provide small American flags to children, Veterans to speak at schools as part of our Americanism program, and recognition to schools who conduct patriotic programs, like Veterans’ Day concerts.  We sponsor a Cub Scout Pack numbering over 125 youngsters.  We create scholarships, so top contenders in our annual Boys and Girls State high school competition can attend –at no personal cost–the week long Civic awareness program between their junior and senior year.  We promote an American Legion youth summer baseball team that allows young men 19-and-under to continue competing in a premiere athletic program and possibly earn a team trip to the American Legion World Series to play against teams from all over the country.

Our Post is also responsible for collecting worn American Flags, as well as periodic flag retirement ceremonies (annual). We properly dispose of flags, in coordination with Boy Scouts of America. In 2020 and beyond, we hope to salvage and re-purpose all or part of retired American flags, as a Veteran keepsake.
